Who is SURGE for?
SURGE Community Business Academy is for:
- Aspiring black business owners with a strong idea and experience in their chosen industry.
- Existing black businesses who want to become even MORE successful with a strong foundation ready for growth.
What is the investment?
Every applicant accepted into SURGE receives a full tuition waiver worth $3,000 thanks to the generosity of our funding partners. Our students’ only financial responsibility is a nominal materials fee.
What is required from me as a student?
The Fall 2023 SURGE cohort will be held weekly in person in Newport News. In addition to attending 11 of the 12 sessions, students should plan to spend 1-2 hours each week completing independent homework assignments and contribute to the Surge community in a positive and constructive manner.
What are classes like?
SURGE features hands-on, experiential learning and reinforcement of key concepts, through guided exercises, business simulations and group discussion. You’ll be immersed in a community of entrepreneurs where you’ll learn as much from your fellow students as you will learn from your instructor. You’ll also have a lot of fun testing your business ideas in a safe space with people who become invested in your success.
